Project Overview:
The Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS), in partnership
with Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network, the Alabama Respite Coalition, and the Alabama Disability Resource Centers (ADRC), proposes
to expand lifespan respite in Alabama as a result of a grant with the Administration
on Aging (AOA). The primary
goal of this project is to provide a statewide, comprehensive,
and coordinated approach to meet the respite care needs of Alabama family caregivers
of individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions regardless of age, income,
race, ethnicity, special needs, or situation.
Survey:
The Alabama Department of Senior Services in collarboration
with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are conducting a statewide needs
assessment survey of family caregivers and service providers. These surveys serve as guides
in helping
agencies such as ADSS, determine the current respite care needs of Alabama family
caregivers. Armed with such information, ADSS and its many partners can provide
a more comprehensive and coordinated statewide approach in administering resources
and services that most effectively meet the respite care needs of family caregivers.
